What we do:

We make getting into motorsport easy, affordable, and fun. At Edinburgh University Motorsport Club you can try your hand at karting, motorbiking, and navigational rallies. Karting and our motocross events are excellent ways to experience racing first-hand, you don’t even need a driving licence or your own gear. We have our own karting championship and compete at the British Universities Karting Championship (BUKC), a national event where 120 teams from 55+ academic institutions compete at some of the UK finest outdoor karting circuits. In addition, we hold bike events throughout the year, from mini-motos to motorcross. Motorsport is also a spectator sport, we organise social events such as our regular Formula 1 watch-alongs at Southsider. Keep updated on our Socials for more events where you can chat about all things motorsport (or not) with likeminded people. Have a look at our home page to see our calendar and upcoming events.

There is no obligation to purchase any specialised gear. In addition, the University of Edinburgh offers funding through the Student Participation Grant, aimed at removing the financial barriers students face in taking part in sports clubs to enhance their time at Edinburgh. We are a diverse club that is open to everyone, no matter the level of experience with racing, karting, biking, and cars. If you would like more information, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or give us an email.

History

Edinburgh University Motorsport Club is a long established club with a proud tradition and history of success. Founded first in 1928 as the Edinburgh University Motor Club (EUMC), the club joined the Sports Union in 1974 and will be celebrating 50 years of membership in 2024. The 'Sport' was only added in the late 1980's following an acronym dispute with the Mountaineering Club. Naturally the motorists took the moral high-ground and graciously altered their name to the current acronym EUMSC.

2000 Reunion

The club's most celebrated alumnus is unquestionably Ron Flockhart, who graduated during the second world war with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Between 1956 and 1960 Flockhart competed in 14 Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, becoming the first-ever Scottish F1 driver to finish on the podium, and he twice won the 24hrs of Le Mans with Edinburgh based team Écurie Écosse in 1956 and 1957.
